The weather is warming up, and there is no better time to freshen up your car’s interior. Follow these steps to get your car looking brand new! First you will need a few supplies:


  • Trash and recycling bag
  • Paper towels/Cloth
  • Household cleaner
  • Glass cleaner
  • Old toothbrush
  • Microfiber towel
  • Vacuum with hose
  • Air Freshener


Step 1: Remove valuable items

Start by removing valuable items like children’s books, gym bags, and movies. These items can be replaced into the vehicle after cleaning. This will help declutter your vehicle and remove unwanted items.

Step 2: Remove trash

Next you should continue to declutter by removing all the trash from your vehicle and place it in the proper container. Then find any recyclables and place them into a recycling bin.

Step 3: Wipe down

You will want remove dirt and dust from the surfaces of your vehicle, like the dashboard and center console. Using household cleaner and a clean cloth dampen the cloth and wipe down the dashboard. Then move to other smaller surfaces in your vehicle like the center console, cup holders, and steering wheel. Use an old toothbrush to scrub those hard to reach places.

Step 4: Vacuum

This step can be done at home. All you need is a vacuum with a hose attachment. This will help you pick up dirt, salt, and other debris in your vehicle. Start by removing your floormats and vacuuming each one individually. Then vacuum the floor of your vehicle to ensure no debris is left behind. Replace your floormats and move onto the rest of your vehicle. Leather and cloth seating can be vacuumed, and it is a great way to pick up crumbs in those hard to reach places. You can even vacuum your cupholders if there is remaining dirt and crumbs.

Step 5: Wash windows

Use a microfiber towel and ammonia-free glass cleaner to wipe down the inside and outside of windows and windshield. Wipe these surfaces in a circular motion to avoid streaking on your windows.

Step 6: Freshen up

The last step is to choose your favorite air freshener to remove unwanted odor in your vehicle.

Save money and avoid harsh chemicals with this homemade glass cleaner. This simple recipe contains common household ingredients. Combine 1 cup of rubbing alcohol, 1 cup of water and a tablespoon of vinegar into a spray bottle. Wipe down your vehicle’s windows using a newspaper for a streak-free shine.

DIY Tire Shine Spray

Get your tires clean and shiny with this do-it-yourself tire shine spray. This blend of common household ingredients will last months and help you keep up on your tire maintenance. First you will need the following supplies:

  1. Baby oil
  2. Water
  3. Dish Soap
  4. Bucket
  5. Spray bottle
  6. Clean towel


  1. Pour ½ cup of cold water into a container
  2. Add 1 cup of baby oil to the water
  3. Pour 3 drops of dish soap into the mixture
  4. Funnel the mixture into a spray bottle
  5. Shake it up and generously spray onto tire
  6. Wipe down each tire with a clean towel

This quick and simple tire shine can be stored in the spray bottle for 6 months with weekly use.


Homemade Car Wash Soap

Washing the car at home can be a great summer activity to cool down and spend time with the family. Follow these instructions for a budget-friendly car wash soap recipe and get to scrubbing!

If you don’t already have these common household items, you will need:

  • A bucket
  • Warm water
  • ¼ cup of baking soda (or white vinegar)
  • ¼ cup of dishwashing soap ( or baby shampoo)

Combine these ingredients in the bucket and scrub the car with a sponge. Then after coating the vehicle rinse well and dry with a clean microfiber cloth to avoid scratching paint. Have some fun and was the car all at the same time with this simple car-washing hack.
