Curious About How EV Charging Stations Work? Woodhouse Explains

Electric car charging from woodhouse.com

Whether you currently own an electric vehicle (EV) or are looking to buy one, you’re probably curious about how EV charging stations work. Woodhouse.com has some experience with these, which we’re happy to pass on to you.

What is an Electric Vehicle?

Let’s start by defining exactly what an EV is. Unlike a gasoline-powered automobile – say, a RAM 2500 – an EV is a vehicle that runs wholly or partly on electricity. Battery electric vehicles (BEVs) rely 100% on electricity and a large battery, whereas plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEVs) feature both an electric battery and a traditional combustion engine. When the electric range is used up, the car switches to gasoline.

Where do You Charge An EV?

EVs can be recharged at home, around town, or on the highway. At-home charging is the cheapest and most convenient option, and most EV owners make regular use of it. Charging stations for Woodhouse EVs can also be found around town, for example in the parking lots of retail centers and commercial buildings. Moreover, EV charging is also available on highways.

How Complicated is the Charging Process?

Plugging in an EV takes about five seconds – all you need to do is connect one end of the charging cable to your car, and the other end to an electric outlet. It’s a lot easier and less time-consuming than going to the gas station, jockeying for a pump, and hoping you don’t return home smelling like gasoline.

What is a Level 2 Charging Station?

Many of the EVs sold by our Omaha Nebraska car dealers offer two charging options: Level 1, which uses a standard household outlet, and Level 2, which requires a special charging station. A Level 2 charging station must be installed by a licensed electrician, who will wire it into your home’s electric system.

Unlike a standard household outlet, which uses 120 volts of electricity, a Level 2 charging station provides 240 volts, which gives your EV more charge in less time.
